Hey, there! My name is Laura. I’m a multi-skilled communications pro with more than a decade’s experience in higher education marketing and communications. I currently serve as Assistant Director of Communications for Content and Collaboration at The University of Alabama (Roll Tide!) and do freelance work on the side.

But to be accurate, I’ve been creating content for WAY longer.

In fact, since I was a child, I’ve always enjoyed writing stories, reading anything I can get my hands on, making crafts from scratch and designing things. Whether it was making my own clothes for my Barbie dolls out of my mother’s scrap fabric to designing covers for my burned mix CDs (Where my Millennials, at?!), I’ve always been drawn to creative expression.

My interest in writing led me to journalism, and I published my first article at the age of 16 working for my hometown newspaper’s teen section. After earning my bachelor’s degree in communications and English at Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, I worked for the first few years out of college at local and suburban Atlanta newspapers as a reporter covering everything from local government and crime to arts and culture.

Life and love brought me to Baltimore where I was fortunate to find a new path in higher education at Towson University’s College of Business and Economics. At this special place, I learned the ins and outs of marketing, social media, publication management, event planning, script writing, public relations and much more. Around this time, I realized my passion for creating things was really a passion for graphic design and I completed my master’s publications design in 2016 from the University of Baltimore.

In 2020, I moved back to my home state of Alabama to work for the University, where I proudly help manage the online News Center and internal communications in addition to coordinating the Campus Communicators Network, a group of 250+ staff members around campus involved in marketing or communications.

When I’m not at work, you can find me playing with my two young sons, who keep me quite busy, traveling with my husband, reading novels, playing a new board game with my family, or just enjoying a glass of wine.
