About Me

Welcome to my side hustle.

I’m a writer and communications professional with more than seven years experience and currently work as the Communications Specialist for Towson University’s College of Business and Economics.

This website is my “side hustle” if you will. But it’s my biggest passion and what I believe is my true calling.

I’ve been interested in design for quite a long time–I just didn’t know it until recently.

When I was 10 years old, I fell in love with scrap booking and creating layouts that chronicled my life experiences, family and friendships in a visual way. As a teenager, I created my own labels for mixed CDs I compiled with songs downloaded from Napster (Where my Millennials at?!) But through it all, I never realized I was designing things.

With an equally strong, but more easily identifiable love for writing, I studied communications and rhetoric studies as an undergrad and launched my career as a newspaper reporter in Atlanta. I not only honed my writing prowess during my experience as a journalist but learned invaluable lessons and skills such as meeting deadlines under intense pressure, being accountable for your work when you’re right or wrong and listening to others.

About six years ago, I moved to Baltimore where I was extended the opportunity to write and tell stories with much less pressure at the incredible institution of Towson University.

It wasn’t until I started working towards a master’s degree that I discovered I have not only a knack, but passion for design while taking a graphic design principles course. I switched my degree path and threw myself into mastering how to strategically and creatively integrate words and images in the University of Baltimore’s Master of Arts in Publications Design program.

Equipped with this degree, my newly “discovered” passion and a wealth of experience, I’m excited to get out there and put my skills and motivation to good use for clients like you.

Playing to my strengths

My unique combination of signature strengths as identified by Gallup’s StrengthsFinder Assessment sets me apart as a writer and designer.

I have a deep sense of the emotions of people around me, and I intuitively see the world through their eyes. This helps me see my clients’ perspectives, hear their unvoiced questions and concerns and anticipate their needs.

No matter how large or small, when I commit to something, I take a deep psychological ownership. My conscientiousness and commitment to doing things right keeps me laser focused on ensuring my clients’ expectations are exceeded.

I am innately inquisitive. I have always been a collector, not of things typically thought of as collectibles, but just objects and ideas that interest me. Just ask my friends. In almost every conversation I’ll say at least once “I heard on NPR” or “did you read that story about…?” As a designer, I draw inspiration from these collected items and intangible ideas to create original and effective work.

I don’t just take fulfillment in helping others reach their full potential and achieve success, I feel personally drawn to help others be their best selves. As a designer, when I work with a client, I genuinely care about helping him/her be the best they can be. I’ll go the extra mile to help educate clients on issues that will help them down the road when our contract has passed.

I am intrigued by the unique qualities of each person. Instinctively, I am drawn to differences between individuals and enjoy drawing out the best in people. I’d like to think that as a designer, this strength means I don’t subscribe to the “one size fits all approach” and that our work together yields solutions that fit you just right.
